My Favorite Halloween Picture Books
I was casually looking through my home library to pick out a few Halloween books for my Kindergarten classes and found myself in an emotional meltdown. The books sent me back to those cozy autumn evenings when my kids were little, curled up with books and blankets. Although I can't get those times back, I still have the books to remind me of those special times. And today, I'd like to share them with you. So, as you cuddle up with your young reader this Halloween season, soak in every minute. It goes by way too fast!
Creepy Carrots by Aaron Reynolds
Jasper rabbit is obsessed with carrots and the best are at Crackenhopper field. But when the carrots start following him, he finds a way to keep them contained. But the joke's on him.
Fright Club by Ethan Long
Cute critters want to be in the Fright Club but the monsters won't accept their membership. They even hire a lawyer to get them in the club. In the end, the cuties prove they can be just as scary and have the best Operation Kiddie Scare yet.
Halloween Night by Marjorie Dennis Murray
In this rhyming story, witches, ghouls, ogres, and more prepare a Halloween Night party. When the trick-or-treaters run away, they decide to party without them. Awesome illustrations!
10 Trick-or-Treaters by Janet Schulman
A sing-songy book that will get your young reader reading and counting over and over again.
Can You See What I See? On a Scary Scary Night by Walter Wick
This incredibly detailed search and solve book will get your young reader in the Halloween spirit.
Skeleton hiccups by margery cuyler
Skeleton can't seem to get rid of his hiccups until a clever ghost gives him a mirror to scare the annoying hic, hic, hic away.
Room on the Broom by Julia Donaldson
Many kids shared that they saw this fantastic tale on Netflix and I'm not surprised. This is so fun to read about a witch who welcomes a few friends onto her broom. And when she becomes the prey of a fierce dragon, her friends find a spooktacular way to save her.
Pete the Cat; Five Little Pumpkins by James Dean
I love the original Five Little Pumpkins song and Pete the Cat does is just right.
Peek-a-Booo! by Marie Torres Cimarusti

Have a baby or young toddler? You and your tiniest trick-or -treater will have so much fun with this friendly, peek-a-boo book. Peek-a-hee hee hee heee!
This is just a small pile of my favorite Halloween books. I hope you can carve some time out tonight for snuggles and books.
Enjoy and Happy Halloreading!
XO,
Shelley
